Facebook, Twitter and now Quora, a new Q & A based Social Networking site which is slowly becoming famous and adding users on the way. Started by ex- facebook employees Adam D’Angelo (ex-chief technology officer of Facebook) and Charlie Cheever (former head of engineering, Facebook Platform and Facebook Connect), Quora was opened to the general public in July 2010. Though Quora still works on an invitation model requiring existing users to send invites to people to join, Quora has approximately 4 lakh registered user as on Dec, 2010.
It is a Q&A based site where members can ask and answer questions based on the “topics” they follow. The Quora site is still not open for advertisements. The site owners want it to be “ A continually improving collection of questions and answers created, edited, and organized by everyone who uses it.” The questions and answers are however under the scrutiny of a moderating team and it is ensured that the content meets the policy requirements.
Only time will tell whether Quora would be successful in putting a full stop to the Facebook/Twitter age or it would be recorded in the history of social media as an “also -ran”.
P.S: Two days back even I signed up for Quora.
